My work explores how branding can capture the emotional identity of a business, while encouraging contemporary audiences to engage with it in new ways. Developed through extensive research into Great Dixter House & Gardens, this project celebrates the garden’s unique atmosphere, planting philosophy, and commitment to biodiversity.
The visual identity draws directly from Dixter itself. The logo takes inspiration from graffiti carved into the beams of the main house, transforming these quiet marks of history into a contemporary typographic identity for use across print and digital media. Alongside this, I created a series of adaptable patterns using digital brushes made from real foliage and flowers. These layered forms reflect Dixter’s bold planting style and the beauty found in natural decay, fallen leaves, wild growth, and habitats often overlooked within traditional garden design.
I wanted to visually communicate what makes Dixter so distinctive, while appealing to a younger generation without alienating existing audiences. The work also extends into a campaign promoting biodiversity within private garden spaces, inspired by the biodiversity information chalk board, displayed in the barn at Dixter. By combining branding with environmental awareness, the project aims to encourage a deeper appreciation of biodiversity and inspire more thoughtful relationships between people and the spaces they cultivate.
